The Davey O'Brien Foundation
The Davey O'Brien Foundation administers the funding and awarding of scholarships for student-athletes at the high school and college levels, including the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award. The O'Brien Award, the oldest and most prestigious award in the country for college quarterbacks, just celebrated its 28th year.

Charles Ringler’s dream of having an award named for Fort Worth’s authentic sports hero, Davey O’Brien, became a reality in November 1977. Ringler and other members of The Fort Worth Club established the Davey O’Brien Memorial Trophy. This award would be presented annually to the outstanding player in the five southwestern states of Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and New Mexico and would be presented by the Davey O’Brien Educational and Charitable Trust. Sadly, Davey O’Brien passed away from cancer and never knew of the honor in his name.

Four years later, the award was expanded nationally in scope and limited to "quarterback", the primary position of its namesake. Jim “Hoss” Brock and Keith Jackson were instrumental in implementing this national expansion. The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award would honor the outstanding college quarterback in the nation each year.

The Davey O’Brien Foundation is a Section 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and the office is located at 306 West Seventh Street, Suite 305 in downtown Fort Worth. The Foundation’s programs are administered by a volunteer Board of Trustees and daily operations are administered by the executive director, Danielle Moorman.
